Wasps and Hornets Wasps and Hornets
Wasp queens hibernate over winter in soil and will emerge in spring to begin nest construction. The queen will then have her first hatch and it is these workers that once developed will continue nest construction and feeding new batches of larva. A typical nest can contain between 15,000 and 30,000 individuals.
A nest is easily eradicated using appropriate insecticidal dusts and in particular nuisance cases such as beer gardens and food production, a system of wasp pots can give excellent ongoing protection.
